The Kalamazoo Antique Auto Restorers Club was organized by John Bailey in 1962. The early meetings were characterized by the exchange of auto parts and restoration tips.

The Mission of the Kalamazoo Antique Auto Restorers Club, a family oriented regional organization, is to preserve the restoration and preservation of antique, veteran, and collector automobiles, and by its activity and fellowship, to promote appreciation and understanding of the history of the motor vehicle. Ownership of an antique, veteran, or collector automobile is not a requirement for membership.

In 1963, the club members organized their first swap meet at the corner of Westnedge and Michigan Avenue in Kalamazoo. The following year, they expanded to the Engel VW Dealership at Crosstown and Vine Streets. Today the swap meet has grown to the largest of its kind, covering over 52,000 square feet, now held annually at the Kalamazoo Expo and Fairgrounds on the first week-end of February

In 1967, Norm Knight decided to publish a monthly newsletter, which he named the Arc N Spark. Read by car enthusiasts across the country, the Arc N Spark has won many “Golden Quill Award’s” from Old Cars Weekly. Recent copies of the Arc N Spark may be found by clicking here.

Since 1980, the club has sponsored the Red Barns Spectacular Car Show. This car show and swap meet, held the first Saturday of August, gets its name from the red barns at the Gilmore Car Museum, Hickory Corners, Michigan. Once again, the purpose was to fulfill the club’s mission of preserving antique cars and recognizing restorations of quality.
